Wednesday Evening Bicycle Study - 9/26/18

Greeting

Welcome to Wednesday evening bicycle study. I'm gonna drink coffee and sit here.

Special Music

Music for this "gathering" is provided by the Devin Townsend Project, one of my favorite bands. The song "Grace" has a churchy title and feel and vocals on this one (and many other DTP songs) are provided by one of my favorite Dutch singers, Anneke van Giersbergen, interestingly* the lead singer of a band from the 90's called "The Gathering".

God, that's one of my favoritest things ever.

Confession

Forgive me, Sheldon, for I have sinned. I have let my bottom bracket run dry. My chain is getting rusty. I haven't checked my tire pressures in like 2 weeks. But I haven't given in to the temptation to give any motorists the finger. Since last Sunday, anyway. I'm a work in progress.

Bicycle Study

Somebody always says it better than I do. Here's one person who does.

Yeah, this video is pretty old. I don't care.

Closing Meditation

Our two-wheeled conveyance, bicycle be thy name. Thy tires inflated, thy pedals undulated, over hills as they are through valleys. Give me today the fresh air and exercise I need to not be a prick. Lead me not into temptation to exchange words with middle aged white men driving pickup trucks flying confederate flags at 40mph in the Kroger parking lot, and deliver me from high school students driving Honda Civics with eyes glued to phone screens. For thine is the efficiency, the style, and the practicality for ever and ever.

Parting Thoughts

There's a ton of good stuff available from both Devin Townsend Project and Mikael Colville-Andersen, enough to keep even the introvert-iest, bike-nerd-iest, guitar-shred-iest person busy for hours. However, seems worth mention that both of these guys have quite recently announced some big career changes. If you care, you can find out about it. You're already on the internet.

*I think it's interesting, anyway.
